A Quad Biker, Rainier Storm, at Oudtshoorn, who had an accident while on an outing at Gamkaskloof "Die Hel" is still in a coma.
Rainier, is in the George Hospital intensive-care unit & is still attached to a ventilator, after his crash in Gamkaskloof near Oudtshoorn.
"He's still in a coma, but he's at least beginning to move, as if he's coming to," said Koos Storm father of Rainier.
"My wife, Onelia & I were at his bedside the whole of last week & only went home on Sunday night”
Koos Storm said: "Rainier was keen to ride a friend's quad. He fell about 20m and his head was badly injured."
Luckily, the quad bike fell in another direction and didn't land on top of him.
"Kobus and I reached him first. It was about 16:00.
"Some of the other people on the outing had to drive to higher ground to get a cellphone signal, so that they could call for help.
"The Red Cross rescue helicopter came to fetch him."
Rainier was taken to Oudtshoorn Hospital where he was stabilised, and from there was transferred to George Hospital by ambulance.
"We really feel drained. We've been through all the plusses and the minuses, all the ups and downs," said Koos Storm.
"The doctors can do nothing more for him, he's been badly hurt. They've got him on antibiotics and painkillers, but other than that matters are in the hands of the Great Healer."
"Rainier is fighting for his life. He underwent an emergency operation on the Monday night after the accident, to put a drainage pipe from his brain to his stomach."
The outing was being held in memory of André Barnard, a Ladysmith business figure who died earlier this year in a quad-bike accident.
Barnard used to arrange the annual outings before his death.
His son, an Afrikaans singer who uses the stage name Willem Welsyn was also on the outing.
